The last time I was shooting with the Ricoh GR, I loved the 28mm for street and landscape photography. Since the X100V has a fixed 35mm that’s not an option. Or is it? Yes, it is an option. Fujifilm has a Wide Conversion Lens (WCL) that screws right on top of your fixed 35mm X100 type camera, which turns it into a 28mm. It has been out since 2013 shortly after Fujifilm released the second X100, the X100S. The one I have is the second generation of the WCL, optically the same as the first, but the camera now automatically detects the lens and adjusts the camera settings in the menu.

I hesitated to buy it at first, because I love the fixed 35mm, and I love the compactness of the camera. Yet, I bought it. The 28mm on the Ricoh felt so familiar again so I started looking online for reviews of the WCL and got convinced.

The camera has become a bit heavier and a bit bigger. It’s still a pretty small package. The WCL adds 150gr and 37mm to the camera. The filter size is still 49mm so the filters you have still apply and you can use the same lens hood too. What is not to like?
