The essence of black and white

Black and White

Black and white photography brings photography back to luminance. To light. To the base of what photography means. Drawing with light. Translated to digital terms this means there is only one channel, the one that displays the contrast and tone of the image, instead of three channels namely Red, Green, and Blue. This one channel holds only the essence of light. The bare minimum you need to take a photo. One channel. Light and shadows, contrast and tone, Luminance.

Translation

The 3D colorful world is translated to a 2D photo which is translated into 1 channel which represents the world. That's why I love black and white. It’s “simple” and to me, less is more.
