Photo walk in Delft with the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4
My son Liam, who is about to become a professional photographer, and I, decided to do a photo walk in a town in the Netherlands called Delft. We both took our cameras. Liam used his Fujifilm X-H2S and I used my good old X-T2. We both had the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 (50mm full frame) attached to our cameras. Do we love this lens? Yes! Liam purchased it because of the special “magic” qualities it has. I was never aware of this lens because I prefer a wider angle like 23mm (35mm full frame) or 18mm (28mm full frame)
After seeing some shots he took with his 35mm I was amazed by the visual quality, sharpness, and beautiful bokeh. Impulsive as I am I pressed order that same day 🫢
I decided to only take the X-T2 and the 35mm with me because I always like to challenge myself with only one lens and one camera and focus on taking pictures instead of my gear 😉 Have to admit that I love the 35mm (50mm full frame) field of view and its shallower depth of field. You don’t have to go very close to your subject and that makes shooting candid street photos a little bit easier I guess.
When we arrived we walked to the city center and Liam noticed this devastated bike in the water near the train station. I totally missed it and walked right by it. I was probably looking at the sky and clouds. That’s the great part of going on a photo walk together: Liam notices different subjects and takes pictures differently. It’s inspiring.
We were lucky. The city centre was very crowded and there was a lot to see. There were some horses and carriages on the city square with very remarkable coachmen on them. They took many tourists for a ride through town. We also witnessed a marriage taking place at the town hall. The words: “love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage” came to mind. 😬 But I wasn’t allowed to sing. 😆
We had a great day and both took a lot of pictures with the 35mm “magic touch” lens. I am still not sure what it is exactly that this lens brings to the table, all I know is that I love it. All the shots I took were shot with the lens wide open at f/1.4. Here are some of the photos I took that worked better in color. What do you think makes this lens so special? Thanks for reading 😊
